About Us

Burmese Orchid is a prominent youth-led nonprofit organization based in Burma (Myanmar), focused on addressing key environmental issues. Founded in 2022, the organization plays a crucial role in combating environmental degradation, promoting sustainability, and empowering young people to take action against environmental crises. Burmese Orchid’s mission emphasizes environmental conservation, deforestation prevention, tackling climate change, and halting illegal wildlife trade, while simultaneously equipping young Burmese individuals with the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacities they need to create lasting, positive changes in their communities and beyond ...

Tackling Climate Change & Sustainability

In addition to conservation, climate change is another central concern for Burmese Orchid. The country is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, with rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and more frequent extreme weather events such as floods and droughts. These changes disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, particularly those dependent on agriculture and natural resources for their livelihoods

Burmese Orchid advocates for sustainable environmental practices, promoting renewable energy, sustainable farming, and resource management techniques. The organization seeks to mitigate climate change’s effects by raising awareness about the importance of reducing carbon footprints, protecting natural resources, and adopting eco-friendly lifestyles. This involves both on-the-ground action and lobbying for stronger environmental policies at the national and international levels.

Environmental Focus & Conservation Efforts

One of the core goals of Burmese Orchid is environmental conservation. The organization is deeply committed to preserving the country’s rich biodiversity, safeguarding forests, and addressing the impact of human activities on the environment. Myanmar is home to diverse ecosystems that include rainforests, mangroves, and wetlands, all of which are under threat due to deforestation, illegal logging, agricultural expansion, and infrastructure development. Burmese Orchid actively works to halt deforestation and advocates for the protection of endangered species, while raising awareness about the importance of ecological balance.

A key component of this work is stopping the illegal wildlife trade, which is rampant in Myanmar. Many species, including tigers, elephants, and various exotic birds, are hunted and trafficked, severely depleting the country’s natural resources and threatening the survival of these species. Burmese Orchid works to educate the public and promote stronger legal frameworks to protect wildlife. Through campaigns and partnerships with other environmental groups, the organization pushes for better enforcement of conservation laws and an end to illegal activities that harm wildlife.

Youth Empowerment & Education

What sets Burmese Orchid apart from many other environmental organizations is its strong focus on youth empowerment. Recognizing that young people are the future stewards of the planet, Burmese Orchid creates opportunities for youth to get involved in environmental advocacy and leadership. The organization offers a variety of educational programs and workshops aimed at equipping young Burmese with the skills and knowledge they need to lead efforts in environmental sustainability.

Through the Burmese Orchid Education Centre, the organization provides specialized training on environmental issues, leadership development, and civic engagement. These courses help young people not only understand the complex environmental challenges facing their country but also develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills necessary to address these issues effectively. By fostering a generation of environmental leaders, Burmese Orchid hopes to create a ripple effect of positive change that will extend far beyond individual actions, inspiring a national movement toward sustainability.
